- RedShift runs on any Macintosh computer containing the Motorola 68030 or
- 68040 processor or the PowerPC processor. RedShift will automatically run
- in native mode on Power Macintosh computers
-
- Demonstrating RedShift
-
- To assist in setting up a demonstration of RedShift we have provided five
- sample settings files. These files may be opened from the File menu of
- either version of RedShift. If you double click on the settings files
- directly they will open the RedShift.PPC application by default. If you
- are using a Macintosh with a 68030 or 68040 processor this application will
- fail as it requires the PowerPC processor. To use these settings files on
- a 68k Macintosh it is necessary to start the RedShift.68k application first
- and then use the File menu Open Settings... command to open the settings
- files
-
- The settings files set up RedShift to display a particular astronomic
- sequence. In each case a control panel labelled Control Time is displayed
- on the screen. This control panel includes a set of buttons similar to
- those on a domestic video cassette recorder, allowing the user to start and
- stop the passing of time. Click on the right-pointing arrow to start the
- sequence
-
- Note that in some of the demonstration files the sizes of planetary moons
- have been exaggerated for a more dramatic effect. This is entirely
- controllable by the user
-
- Self-running demonstration
-
- In addition to the settings files, this CD-ROM contains a self-running
- demonstration of RedShift created with Macromind Director. This
- demonstration shows some of the features of RedShift, but as Director does
- not run in native mode on the Power Macintosh it shows no advantage over
- 68k Macintosh computers
-
- QuickTime
-
- RedShift requires QuickTime 1.5 or better. A licensed copy of QuickTime
- 2.5 is provided on the disk. If you do not already have QuickTime 2.5 or a
- newer version installed, we recommend that you drag the QuickTime extension
- from the CD-ROM to the Extensions folder on your hard disk and restart your
- Macintosh
-
- Speed
-
- RedShift will run perfectly well straight from the CD-ROM. For greater
- speed, we recommend creating a folder on your hard disk and dragging the
- RedShift application and the five demonstration settings files into this
- new folder
