  1. RedShift runs on any Macintosh computer containing the Motorola 68030 or
  2. 68040 processor or the PowerPC processor.  RedShift will automatically run
  3. in native mode on Power Macintosh computers
  4.  
  5. Demonstrating RedShift
  6.  
  7. To assist in setting up a demonstration of RedShift we have provided five
  8. sample settings files.  These files may be opened from the File menu of
  9. either version of RedShift.  If you double click on the settings files
  10. directly they will open the RedShift.PPC application by default.  If you
  11. are using a Macintosh with a 68030 or 68040 processor this application will
  12. fail as it requires the PowerPC processor.  To use these settings files on
  13. a 68k Macintosh it is necessary to start the RedShift.68k application first
  14. and then use the File menu Open Settings... command to open the settings
  15. files
  16.  
  17. The settings files set up RedShift to display a particular astronomic
  18. sequence.  In each case a control panel labelled Control Time is displayed
  19. on the screen. This control panel includes a set of buttons similar to
  20. those on a domestic video cassette recorder, allowing the user to start and
  21. stop the passing of time.  Click on the right-pointing arrow to start the
  22. sequence

  24. Note that in some of the demonstration files the sizes of planetary moons
  25. have been exaggerated for a more dramatic effect.  This is entirely
  26. controllable by the user
  27.  
  28. Self-running demonstration
  29.  
  30. In addition to the settings files, this CD-ROM contains a self-running
  31. demonstration of RedShift created with Macromind Director.  This
  32. demonstration shows some of the features of RedShift, but as Director does
  33. not run in native mode on the Power Macintosh it shows no advantage over
  34. 68k Macintosh computers
  35.  
  36. QuickTime
  37.  
  38. RedShift requires QuickTime 1.5 or better.  A licensed copy of QuickTime
  39. 2.5 is provided on the disk.  If you do not already have QuickTime 2.5 or a
  40. newer version installed, we recommend that you drag the QuickTime extension
  41. from the CD-ROM to the Extensions folder on your hard disk and restart your
  42. Macintosh

  45.  
  46. RedShift will run perfectly well straight from the CD-ROM.  For greater
  47. speed, we recommend creating a folder on your hard disk and dragging the
  48. RedShift application and the five demonstration settings files into this
  49. new folder
